It’s hard to call Raines underrated — she holds more IBMA Bass Player of the Year awards than anyone else — but the word will do more than nicely for the other two members of this nifty new acoustic trio. Autry (guitar) in particular has been woefully under-recorded, despite a lengthy tenure in the currently on-hold John Cowan Band, and while one-time JCB bandmate Cobb (last seen out and about fiddling with Dale Ann Bradley) is a bit better represented, he too has committed only a fraction of his formidable talent to disc. Both are robust players known to the cognoscenti for delicious tone — a trait they share with Raines — but where Autry leans toward the muscular, Cobb opts for a deft and distinctive oscillation between sweet and bluesy. The configuration promises a tasty romp through bluegrass land and into swing and jazz territory. Oh, and did I mention they can sing, too? It’s a small venue, so call ahead for tickets.
