JD McPherson w/Adam Faucett

When: Sun., July 29, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $10
Oklahoma native JD McPherson has been attracting quite a buzz with his take on classic rhythm & blues on the cusp of transforming into rock ’n’ roll (a genre Nashville Jumps’ Pete Wilson always referred to as “early, unbleached rock ’n’ roll”). His first album, Signs and Signifiers, has attracted praise from such heavyweight roots-music movers as Tom Waits, Nick Lowe and John Prine, along with rave reviews from the usual suspects in big-time music press. To all the naysayers who accuse McPherson of simply channeling the spirit of Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed and Big Joe Turner, I have this to say: What’s wrong with that? But along with those influences are sharp songwriting and sufficient gusto to pull off McPherson’s return to the juke joints. Someone grab me a pig foot and a bottle of beer.
