Jane Braddock: Liberated While Living

When: Nov. 13-Dec. 13 2012
In Sanskrit, the word Jivamukti means “liberated while living.” For her new exhibition of large-scale canvases at Belmont University’s Leu Gallery, Nashville-based painter Jane Braddock makes use of the phrase, stenciling it onto each colorful canvas, making the words both the expansive content and the restrictive framework that inform the composition of each piece. Playing with multiple layers of gestures and colors, Braddock’s energetic rendering of the phrase attempts to embody its ideals.
