James Best Signing

When: Sat., May 1, 6-9 p.m. 2010
Price: free
As Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane on The Dukes of Hazzard, James Best spent seven seasons playing Wile E. Coyote to Luke and Bo Duke’s Roadrunner, slapping his black hat on his thigh in impotent rage and sputtering that next time he’d git them Duke boys. But that’s about a tenth of a career that goes back more than 60 years, including memorable stints on Gunsmoke, The Twilight Zone and The Andy Griffith Show (he was guitar-pickin’ Jim Lindsey!) and roles in classic films such as Samuel Fuller’s Shock Corridor, Budd Boetticher’s Ride Lonesome and Anthony Mann’s Winchester ’73. He’s also an acclaimed painter, which means he should fit right in at the First Saturday Art Crawl as he signs copies of his autobiography Best in Hollywood at indie bookseller Sherlock’s new downtown branch.
