Jake Simmons w/Skoolgirl, No Good & How Cozy

When: Fri., March 21, 9 p.m. 2014
Even without his band The Little Ghosts to back him up, Jake Simmons of Kalamazoo, Mich., can be counted on to stand up for the underdog with an anthemic sucker-punch, and he’ll be in good company tonight. A recent reunion with power-drumming partner Rachael Durnin became an opportunity to revive Maddy Madeira’s high-energy indie outfit How Cozy, and fresh-faced punkers No Good still claim they’re not a band despite opening the Dum Dum Girls show at Exit/In earlier this month. Stan Richardson’s ever-evolving Skoolgirl project, which deals in fuzzy pop on its recent EP Seasquatch, has just the kind of unpredictable element you want in a basement show: Will there be homemade instruments and samples of Star Trek, or an artist painting on members of the band while they perform? The only way to know for sure is to show up. Just don’t park in the street.
