My name is Dana and I’m a hoarder. A bead hoarder. I’ve been making bead necklaces for years, but turns out I enjoy basking in my trove of colorful beads a lot more than doing the actual grunt work of stringing things and attaching clasps. Thus I have a major backlog of unused beads, findings, wire and thread. Nonetheless, I don’t want to miss this year’s Intergalactic Bead and Jewelry Show. Here’s the rationalization: I gotta start stringing so I can use up all those beads and create presents for friends, family and bosses — shiny beads work so much better than shallow flattery. [Editor’s note: That’s what you think.] And before I can launch those projects, I need inspiration. That’s where the bead show comes in. Exhibitors from all over the country will be there, with beads of every stripe: glass, gems, crystal, wood, shell, polymer clay … you name it. And, it’s not just about buying things. You can get advice from fellow beaders, learn about different clasps, earring wires, tools and techniques, and even take classes. (How about making an Athena collar in sterling wire and beads?) It's more fun than a barrel of barrel beads. Go to beadshow.com and click on the Nashville show link to learn about the exhibitors and sign up for classes.
