Industry of the Ordinary

When: March 4-25 2011
In their group manifesto, the Industry of the Ordinary art collective states that they are “dedicated to an exploration and celebration of the customary, the everyday and the unusual.” Adam Brooks and Mathew Wilson are a pair of Chicago-based artists and educators. The dynamic duo has committed any number of creative acts in their quest to define that space where humor, hubris, hijinks and heartfelt art-making meet up for a cold one. Tonight at Watkins, the pair will open a new exhibit with a lecture and a performance of Epilation, a piece that finds a model wearing a fur coat while it is unceremoniously sheared from her body. Part politics, part striptease, we like to think of this as a new rite of spring.
