Nashville playwright Shawn Whitsell continues exercising his deconstruction of the African-American family with yet another of his original works. Whitsell's Hart clan might be, at least in spirit, fairly close to The Family Stone (only with a housekeeper): There's always love, but also tensions, expectations and emotional obstacles to overcome. Then a surprise interloper enters the scene, and his presence ignites a chain of events that threatens to alter family dynamics forever. In his typical triple-threat style, Whitsell also directs and performs in his piece, and he's got his virtual repertory company of eager actors on hand, with Mary McCallum, Dianne Dixon, Alicia Ridley, Rashad Rayford, Jene India and Tamiko Robinson among them.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: July 10. Continues through July 18, 2009
