Hollow Ox's Pleiades is a five-song time capsule of late-80s/early-90s dream pop, focusing largely on the delicacies and simple nuances of bands such as Slowdive or Pale Saints. Waves of guitars crest during extended parts while hushed vocals round out the trademarks of a genre probably better known as shoegaze. Hollow Ox never attempt the density of My Bloody Valentinethe standard against which all shoegaze bands are comparedbut the band is willing to jam it out longer than their influences ever did. These psychedelia-tinged jam sessions are the source of Pleiades success, an exercise less in pizzazz and more in subtlety.
