Hey, Boo: Harper Lee & To Kill a Mockingbird Screening & Book Talk

While Tennessee Repertory Theatre’s season-opening stage version of To Kill a Mockingbird will help remind us of the 50th anniversary of Harper Lee’s beloved novel all this month, Nashville Public Library offers a tantalizing double whammy of remembrance via this combo book talk/screening of the documentary Hey, Boo: Harper Lee & To Kill a Mockingbird. Director Mary Murphy’s lively appreciation of Lee, her life and her work is achieved in part through interviews with notable folks like Scott Turow, Rosanne Cash, Anna Quindlen, Oprah Winfrey and Tom Brokaw. In addition, filmmaker Murphy has produced a book, Scout, Atticus & Boo: A Celebration of Fifty Years of To Kill a Mockingbird, which traces the history of the novel as it relates to its powerful effect on 20th century culture. The viewing is followed by a Q&A with Murphy, followed by a signing at the Southern Festival of Books.
