Heroic at TSU

The latest show at Tennessee State University continues a challenging month of programming that finds curator Jodi Hays racing videos, performances, exhibits and lectures in and out of the Hiram Van Gordon Gallery on the North-side campus. Pretty much any day in October, you can see something interesting--and new--in the Gallery, and this show and lecture are no exception. Presenting efforts by three artists, Heroic addresses the subject of male identity through work that is larger-than-life in size, or content; embracing pop culture trends as well as mythic narratives and legends. The show features Mark Belton, Nathaniel Creekmore and Shaun Leonardo. The opening will be followed by the panel discussion Getting Complex: Toward a More Complex Definition of the Black Male in Art and Education.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 15. Continues through Nov. 26, 2008
