Heavy Times w/Deluxin', Monsters on Television & Square People

When: Fri., Sept. 28, 10 p.m. 2012
Call it a dive, a greasy spoon, a haunt, a hole-in-the-wall, a shithole. Whatever you call Nashville institution Betty’s, we’re just glad to see some quality noisy and/or experimental rock music returning to one of the most understated little joints in Music City. Tonight, Chicago’s Heavy Times breeze through town after a gig at Goner Records’ legendarily garage-rockin’ Gonerfest in Memphis. Raw, blown-out and rapid without sacrificing strong vocal melody, their work is beguiling noise pop, and last year’s Jacker is full of hook-laden, lo-fi punk that calls to mind founding fathers of fuzz like Wire and The Wipers. Also on the bill is a triple-threat of solid local rock: Sonic Youth-channeling noise rockers Deluxin’, fast and furious rock ’n’ roll power trio Monsters on Television and punky spazz-jazz experimentalists Square People.
