No, the Tennessee legislature isn’t putting on a rock show tonight at The Mercy Lounge — it's the other Heartless Bastards. And while we're more than willing to yap your ear off about the lowercase-h heartless bastards — a certain GOP chairman from a certain southerly county comes to mind — we would rather talk about the uppercase-H Heartless Bastards and their new album Arrows. Holy shit have we been waiting for this one! The Bastards have homed in on the exact location where the darkness of folk and the heavyness of psychedelia intersect. Like Tull, but for cool kids, never crossing the line into the self-parody or complexity for complexity's sake. And they're not just some studio jokers either: As good as any Bastards' album is — and they are great — the Bastards' live show is exponentially better. Probably because their shows are exponentially louder, but that's the way a rock ’n’ roll band should be.
