Harry Underwood at Estel Gallery

Estel Gallery will be playfully out-of-step at this month's Art Crawl, closing their current show instead of opening a new one. The Logic of Wishful Thinking is a one-man exhibit of paintings by Harry Underwood. Whether you follow art in Nashville or not, you've seen Underwood's ubiquitous imagery somewhere, sometime, in Nashville. Like Madonna, Underwood is known by his one-word-first-name-moniker, Harry. However, unlike the Detroit Diva, Harry hasn't remade his aesthetic over the years, so much as he has refined it. Nowadays, Harry's narrative paintings--featuring muted colors, floating text slogans and a style borrowed from commercial illustration--read like postcards arriving from a parallel universe, evoking nostalgia for an innocent age that none of us can recall.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 25. Continues through Nov. 1, 2008
