Shee-yit, we've barely lost the glow from the Bomba Estereo show last week, and now another of our favorite progressive Latin-music outfits is coming to town? Is this a trend? A result of the changing demographic makeup of our city and nation? ’Cause if it is, we are totally and completely on board. Oh, lord, are we on board! Austin, Texas orquestra Grupo Fantasma pluck sounds from across the Western Hemisphere and across the globe and whip them into a frothy forward-thinking sound that manages to capture the best elements of all music. Shifting between classic Latin rhythms, reggae-style production flourishes and rocked-up funk, GF manage to hit pretty much all the sweet spots — as evidenced by a Grammy for their latest album El Existential. They are joined by Austin multi-instrumentalist William Hood.
