Greg Behrendt

In all honestly, I don't think I'd much care for Greg Behrendt the person. The He's Just Not That Into You scribe seemed so smarmy and all-knowing on the sole season of his eponymous talk show--always trying hard to pretend he wasn't trying hard. Self-improvement books? Consulting for Sex and the City? At least he's finally ditched the sky-high, overgrown fratboy 'do. But strip all those superficial side projects and appearances away, and a highly intuitive comic lies at the core. Live, a sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll vibe pervades, and not a bit of it feels forced. His energy is contagious, and the confidence well-earned--plus, there's not a single performer currently doing better relationship material. Now if only I weren't so put off by his ska-surf band The Reigning Monarchs, or Black Rattle, his black-metal collective that "plays children's music very hard..."
