The Greater Good EP Release feat. Hanzelle & Casa Castile

When: Fri., Nov. 18, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $5
There are a lot of reasons to be excited about Nashville's burgeoning hip-hop scene — not least of which that it gives more ammunition to our protestations against being labeled “just” a country music town. But more than that, it's the amazing diversity of artists coming out of our humble 615 that's most thrilling. Nashville's hip-hop community may not have locked down a regional identity in the way that Atlanta or Oakland have, but what it does have is a crazy melting pot of artists paying homage to just about every style under the sun — from conscious to backpack to nerdcore, it's all here. All that being said, it's about time that The Greater Good, Nashville's alterna-rap answer to Gang Starr and De La Soul, released some recorded material. Driven by a three-piece band that sounds like its absorbed every classic funk break since the dawn of rhyme, Kevan “Big Sir” Pedan makes MCing look effortless. The band will release their debut EP, Rare Form, alongside ’Boro party machine Hanzelle and bedroom poppers Casa Castile.
