What could be more appropriate for Memorial Day weekend than an old-fashioned jamboree? Why, nothing, of course … well, except for maybe an old-fashioned barbecue buffet, right? You can get both at the Nashville Zoo, in honor of the 200th birthday of the zoo's Grassmere Historic Home. Bluegrass band Grassfire will be putting the “jam” in the jamboree, and there'll be special animal programs and guest speakers too, including state Rep. Janis Sontany, who will read a resolution in honor of the home's birthday. Best of all, the home will be open for tours, where visitors can learn about the five generations who lived there, and how the zoo came to be located on the land. The barbecue picnic, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is $9.50 in advance (if you register by 2 p.m. May 29 at www.nashvillezoo.com). Otherwise, it's $11 at the party. But the birthday cake is free (as long as it lasts, anyway)
