As a singer, Trace Adkins is consistently and undeniably talented — as a chooser of songs and settings, less so. Still, he came up a winner when he turned to the century-old West Point Cadet Glee Club for accompaniment on “Till The Last Shot’s Fired,” and the group joined him for a memorable performance on 2009’s ACM awards show. They’ll team up again at the Opry this weekend, and the pairing’s sure to lift the appearance well beyond the ordinary. In case you’d forgotten, West Point is coed now, and so its glee club’s voicings are, let us say, more well-rounded than they once were. And as is the case with virtually all of the armed forces’ many musical ensembles, the group represents with plenty of pride and a nice sense of public outreach that goes beyond the stern. The West Point Cadet Glee Club will also be appearing Saturday afternoon at Lipscomb University; tickets there are free but in limited supply, so consider yourself warned.
