God on Trial Screening at Congregation Micah

Judge Not...
Arguing with God is a central motif in the Jewish tradition. The theme provides the framework for God on Trial, a 2008 television play produced by the BBC and WGBH in Boston. Inspired by a legendary mock trial held at Auschwitz, Jewish prisoners put the Almighty in the dock on the grounds that he has broken his covenant by allowing Nazi atrocities. Reviews for God on Trial have been overwhelmingly positive, citing excellent performances by Antony Sher, Rupert Graves and Dominic Cooper, actors familiar to British audiences but largely unknown in the States. The teleplay, directed by Andy de Emmony and written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, interrogates the nature of belief and suffering with an unsentimental eye. Congregation Micah is a Reform Jewish synagogue known for its inclusiveness and diversity.
