The best disco artists have historically understood African-American music, looping propulsive rhythms and the howled voices of retro R&B into cries for dance-floor unity. SoCal DJs Classixx fit snugly in that tradition. Like Germany’s Tensnake or Belgium’s Aeroplane, Classixx co-masterminds Michael David and Tyler Blake are renowned for their lavish, anthemic brew of synthesized funk. The two are club DJs for hire and have even spun records alongside Kanye West affiliate A-Trak. Moreover, they’ve remixed tracks by the acclaimed likes of Phoenix (“Lisztomania”), Yacht (“Psychic City”), and soulful chamber pop newbie Active Child (“When Your Love Is Safe”), among others. Joining Classixx at Nashville’s electronica-themed Girls & Boys showcase will be bloghouse favorite Justin Faust and chilled-out pop duo Cherub. Also on the bill is local DJ Jeremy “Coach” Todd, whom Swag magazine once heralded as the heir apparent to Daft Punk.
