It was 20 years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. And it was 40 years ago today that the band climbed on the roof of clay. OK, it's not Yeats, but at least it rhymes, so cut me some slack. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Beatles' last live performance (atop Apple Records' London headquarters), local Fab Four tribute band The WannaBeatles will play on top of Rippy's nightclub on Lower Broadway at exactly noon, the same time their idols did. (Actually, if they wanted to be super-authentic, they'd account for the time difference and do the show at 6 a.m., but that's a minor quibble.) Access to Rippy's rooftop patio will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the show can be viewed at street-level from the corner of Fifth and Broadway.
