For more than 10 years, Quebec-based world music trio Genticorum has deftly fused traditional French and Celtic sounds with elements of North American folk in an impressively listenable way. The minimalist band, which has released four studio albums, has played more than 800 concerts in 15 countries, while enjoying critical acclaim in Great Britain, the United States and its native Canada. Genticorum’s music includes jigs, reels, polkas and high-energy call-and-response songs. Of note, the threesome also can deliver joyous a cappella numbers in French. But it might be the invigorating foot percussion of fiddler/vocalist Pascal Gemme that best defines the group’s sound. Joining Gemme are Jan Falquet on guitar and vocals and Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand on wooden flute, electric bass, fiddle and vocals.
