Gameness Fighting Championship

When: Sat., Oct. 9 2010
Price: $30
Gameness Fighting Championship — see, “gameness” is a word commonly used to describe aggressive pit bulls, as opposed to the word “cur,” which denotes tail-tuckers, and nobody wants to watch one of those, right? — is headed to the Tennessee State Fairgrounds Oct. 9. The Volunteer State’s mixed-martial arts answer to UFC has a card that is actually kind of interesting: Dustin Ortiz, the Franklin lightweight who submitted his opponent with a rear-naked choke at this spring’s Strikeforce event; Thomas Campbell, the Nashvillian who was spectacularly KO’d with a vicious knee to the head at Strikeforce; Charles McTorry, the Ensworth School wrestling coach and two-time state champion from Overton who was one of seven high school wrestlers in the country with 200 career wins, according to Sports Illustrated; and Connie Rymer, a Thai-kickboxing 15-year-old female out of Dickson who’ll make her debut in the cage.
