Currently our favorite show at The Frist, A Divine Light: Northern Renaissance Paintings from the Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery is a brief but gorgeous exhibit of works that represent religious expressions that were specific to the Renaissance outside of Italy. The most memorable pieces in the show take unique points of view on the central figure of Jesus. In some, he’s featured in dramatic, up-close portraits. In others, he all but disappears in the backgrounds of crowded scenes. Jim Womack, art historian and Jackson Family Chair of the Fine Arts at Montgomery Bell Academy, will shed light on these pieces and more in tonight’s gallery talk.
