Lee's new solo show features images of birds and other animals, all painted on wood remnants from old cabinets and barn siding. A painting of a waddling duck against a stained wood door has a rustic, folksy vibe. In another work, two white baby herons stand out against a backdrop of old, cracked paint, suggesting an almost mystical cycle-of-life theme. Lee uses warm earth tones for an organic feel, and manages to find that often-elusive balance between arty and aesthetically pleasing. The afternoon reception will feature a set of ambling roots rock from The Joiners.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: April 7. Continues through May 15, 2009
