Wine: always in season
L’Eté du Vin, the annual American Cancer Society fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, July 26, is getting an early start on April 17 with A Taste of Spring. Presented by l’Eté du Vin (which marks its 23rd year this summer) and Nashville Wholesale Distributors, next Thursday’s event will make available more than 100 wines for sampling. A tasting preview is open to all area restaurants, wine retailers, convention staff, bartenders, wait staff and wholesale distributors from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., free of charge. At 5:30 p.m., the doors will open to the public. For $60 (or $50, if tickets are purchased by April 10), guests will receive one glass and all the vino they can taste. A small silent auction of 20 to 30 lots will also take place during the public tasting, which is being held at the Sheraton Hotel Downtown. Tuscan Titillations, the Nashville Symphony’s wine, food and music event originally scheduled for March 20 at Cibo, 706 Church St., has been rescheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, same place. Admission is $50 per person; reservations can be made by calling 783-1250.
The world turns on you
Wild Oats Natural Marketplace, at 3909 Hillsboro Pike, celebrates Earth Day noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, with a variety of activities, tastings, demonstrations and giveaways. To encourage earth-smart choices, Wild Oats will award some lucky customers with a 19-inch Rincon mountain bike, a Frigidaire high-efficiency washing machine, natural body care and Earth Day gift basketsand a new car. The $19,550 Honda Civic Hybrid, courtesy of Reddell Honda, is currently on display at the store and can be test-driven at the dealership. Customers can enter all drawings through the month of April. During the April 12 celebration, the store will offer raw food tastings, seed giveaways, composting demonstrations, consultations with organic farmer Jim Huff of Backyard Organics, and a cooking demonstration. Special activities for children are also planned.
