Returning to the Nashville stomping grounds where their recent debut Come, Arrow, Come! was recorded, Brooklyn, N.Y., duo Festival (sisters Lindsay and Alexis Powell) bring a unique touch to the often-dull soundscape of experimental folk. While they lend a mandatory nod to the splintered acoustics of early Devendra Banhart and could easily be aligned with the traveling bard orchestrations of Joanna Newsom, Festival refuse to merely follow suit with freak folk conventions. Imbued with the Powell sisters' drafty vocal harmonies, plucked acoustic sounds and gently rapped bells, Arrow conjures up medieval tales and forest frolic without any of the typical mythological accouterments that would have watered down its natural impact. Locals might remember Lindsay from her days recording for homegrown indie label Infinity Cat under the moniker Cake Bake Betty. Speaking of the Cat, brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall of JEFF fame round out the band's line-up. Also playing an in-store at Grimey's, 6 p.m. Monday Aug. 11
Sun., Aug. 10, 8 p.m., 2008
