During the course of any calendar year, the Frist Center for the Visual Art features admission-free family days, highlighted by special programs and artsy activities themed upon current exhibitions. It’s a cool marketing and public-relations concept, with some of Nashville’s most beloved institutions contributing to the effort. For this free Family Day, the Nashville Children’s Theatre will give a special performance, while officials with Dyer Observatory will make an astronomical presentation sure to elicit wonderment from all attendees. Kids, telescopes and art — a strong combination, indeed. Current exhibitions include the works of master glass wizard Dale Chihuly and clothing, shoes and photos from The Golden Age of Couture, so it should be interesting to see how Frist brass theme this freebie. Of course, the Martin ArtQuest Gallery is always ready to accommodate tykes, as should be Frist Center “baby eagle mascot” Swifty. Family-friendly Nashville Parent magazine is the sponsor.
