Fairgrounds Public Hearing

When: Tue., Jan. 18, 6 p.m. 2011
Abuse of political power, or long-overdue eradication of a money-losing ear- (and eye-) sore? It’s anyone’s guess as the next round of What’ll Happen to Our Not-So-Beloved Fairgrounds airs this evening, when the drawn-out issue of whether to demolish the racetrack will be put to one hotly contested second vote, with public input. Though the flea market and Expo Center were saved from an unenviable address in the Hickory Hollow Mall by unexpectedly mounting public pressure, Mayor Dean intends to move ahead with the demolition of the rev-em-up track portion of the 117 acres in favor of a public park. What say you, Nashville? Be you red-shirted preservationists or green-acre land-lovers, spreading out so far and wide? Stay tuned.
