Face Off

McLagan’s spiky, honky-tonk keyboards put an exclamation point on the cheeky swagger of the ’70s-era Faces and, before that, the Small Faces. He’s been leading his own Bump Band for more than 30 years, and while ex-bandmate Rod Stewart deserted the sassy tone and horny backbeat of songs like “Stay With Me” and “Had Me a Real Good Time” long ago, McLagan’s Austin-based band keeps the carnal strut alive. His 2008 album Never Say Never balanced brash pub rock with heartbreak songs brought on by the death of his wife of 28 years, who was killed in a car accident in August 2006. While the singer and keyboardist will show his emotion with a couple of ballads, expect the show to focus on rock that rolls.
