Goddamn it, every time we're like, “ugh, we're so sick of dubstep,” somebody books a show with an artist that makes us go, “Damn, we really do dig this shit.” Yeah, it's a little schizophrenic on our part, but how are we — lovers of the big, bassy beats that we are — going to deny the badassedness of Excision and his latest album X-Rated? It just can't be done. X-Rated finds the Canadian DJ/producer basically bludgeoning the shit out of speakers with tunes that simultaneously heavy and ethereal, glitchy and melodic, covering pretty much all the ground that made the genre fun in the first place. And speaking of speakers, Excision is traveling with a sound system specifically designed for dubstep, with custom 18-inch speakers that pump out 100,000 watts of sound. Translation: Lay off the fiber before you head to this one kids. That, or bring an extra set of underthings, because it could get messy. Liquid Stranger and Lucky Date are also on the bill.
