There are three Nashville churches on the list of 500 nationwide that are participating in this year’s Evolution Weekend, the eighth official occurrence designed to recognize that religion and science should be seen as complementary rather than confrontational. The Greater Nashville Unitarian Universalist Congregation, the Nashville Chapter of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and Woodland Presbyterian Church are all spending time acknowledging a common goal: to elevate the quality of the discussion on this critical topic, and to show that religion and science are not adversaries. From the event’s press release: “[Science and religion] look at the natural world from quite different perspectives and ask — and answer — different questions. Religious people from many diverse faith traditions and locations around the world understand that evolution is quite simply sound science; and for them, it does not in any way threaten, demean or diminish their faith in God. In fact, for many, the wonders of science often enhance and deepen their awe and gratitude towards God.” Amen! Find out more at theclergyletterproject.org.
