WKRN-Channel 2 anchor Bob Mueller has raised some eyebrows around the ABC affiliate by assuming the presidency of the local chapter of the fan club devoted to the FOX sitcom That ’70s Show.
In addition to the awkwardness of the popular newsman’s high-profile support of a rival-network program, his duties as president require him to host weekly viewing partiesmeaning that on Tuesday nights he leaves the station immediately after the early news, runs home, hosts the party, cleans up and makes it back to the Channel 2 studios in time for the late news.
“It’s a lot of work, but nothing beats eating popcorn and exchanging show gossip with the other members,” Mueller says, adding, “I like all the actors, but especially Laura Prepon and Topher Grace. In fact, a lot of people say I sort of look like him.”
Neese gets driver’s license
WTVF-Channel 5 weatherboy Charlie Neese has delighted his friends at the station by getting his driver’s license.
Neese, whose fresh-faced weather reports are a bright spot in the station’s weekend news broadcasts, passed the written test easily, but wasn’t sure how he had done on the parallel parking.
“It took me a couple of times, but the trooper was real nice,” the 16-year-old forecasting prodigy says. Neese passed the test driving his mom’s Buick wagon, but says has been saving his weather forecasting money toward a new Volkswagen Beetle.
“This is great news,” says Ron Howes, Channel 5’s lead meteorologist. “Now Charlie can drive himself to work instead of relying on Chris Clark and me for rides.”
Miller has strange dream
WSMV-Channel 4 anchor Dan Miller reports awakening from a strange dream a few nights ago.
“It was the strangest thing,” he says. “I dreamed it was the mid-’80s and I was living in California, doing local news. Then I was fired, andthis is really strangeI got a job as a sidekick on a talk show hosted by Pat Sajak.
“I kept running into Gerry House wherever I went around L.A.which, in that sort of weird logic that dreams have, seemed normal. After I woke up, I just sort of lay there for a few minutes, thinking about how strange it all was.”
Miller attributes the dream to two banana splits he had eaten shortly before bed.
