Eric Powell: People I Know in Nashville When I'm Drunk

When: Sun., Aug. 4, 8 p.m. 2013
East Nashville’s Octane! Gallery, inside of the Kustom Thrills Tattoo Studio, continues to amaze with inventive and fresh programs of pure pop art for the people. Co-curators Jeff Bertrand, Brandon Henderson and Chris St. Clark remain on the hunt for the unusual and unique, and they’ve scored a major coup with their latest show. Eisner Award-winning comic book creator Eric Powell is best known for his chronicles of The Goon — a two-fisted carny turned monster fighter whose stories read like a collaboration between Harvey Kurtzman and Charles Bukowski. It makes perfect sense, then, that Powell’s first non-comic gallery show is centered on portraits of barflies, mugs and floozies as viewed through a haze of good corn likker. Come out for the art, stay for the bar fight.
