Elliott Smith Tribute at Mercy Lounge

Figure 8 off 8th

Figure 8 off 8th
Nearly six years after his death, the emotional transcendence and overall relevance of Elliott Smith’s material remains. From the intimate, lo-fi sounds of Roman Candle to the ornately arranged baroque pop of Figure 8, Smith’s entire catalog sparkles with poignancy and a sort of thoughtful, introspective songwriting rarely matched in its consistency and grace. Tonight, several local artists are paying homage to the fallen performer by covering his material, and while there’s no charge for entry, donations will be accepted on behalf of the Elliott Smith Memorial Fund. One hundred percent of donations made to the fund will be turned over to Outside In, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving homeless youths in Smith’s adopted hometown of Portland, Oregon. Performing will be local artists Josh Foster, Caitlin Rose, Don Gallardo & How Far West, Angel Snow with Korby Lenker, Clap for Daylight, Kory Murphy with Kristen Michelle, Brian Ritchey and Matthew Solberg, each of whom will perform two originals and three covers.
