In an all-too-familiar story, guitarist Danny Amis — an accomplished musician who played bass with New York's Raybeats in the ’80s and went on to found the great post-Duane Eddy instrumental combo Los Straitjackets — was caught without insurance when doctors diagnosed him with bone-marrow cancer last year. The good news: Amis received stem-cell treatment last month and has been recovering. Tonight's benefit show features rockabilly band The Planet Rockers along with Los Straitjackets themselves — although Amis won't be able to come to Nashville to participate in the show. Filling out the bill are Nashville singer Webb Wilder and guitarist extraordinaire Kenny Vaughan, along with Paul Burch, Jimmy Lester, Bright Little Field and Bob Irwin. A one-time Nashville resident, Amis has kept the flame of eternal twang alive for many years. The Nashville show is one of several benefits booked over the next month — expect some boss guitar.
