Over the last few months, we’ve been introducing changes to the paper that we hope readers will find helpful. This week, we’re debuting an expanded film section featuring a new “Short Takes” column (p. 52) to encompass everything from blurbs on opening films to local movie news to condensed reviews. The talented Jim Ridley, our film editor, is overseeing the addition of these prosaic freeze-frames. Readers have also noticed that we have a brand new food critic in Carrington Fox, who could spend hours conversing about the utility of the Club Cracker, write a thesis about the merits of sous vide cookery, and put a non-foodie in a coma with a discussion of alternative recipes for gefilte fish. She is gracefully following the gold-encrusted breadcrumbs of the inimitable Kay West, who will continue to write the occasional food piece for the Scene (this week, for example), but whose work will mostly grace our pages in the form of cover stories and other projects. Also, if you haven’t checked lately, we’ve dramatically revamped our online listings and dining guide engines so that you can find out what’s going on faster than Beverly Keel can drop a name. Stay tuned for more improvements….
