This is the week that Americana’s singer-songwriter rising stars and notable veterans take over downtown venues and showcase through the night. You probably won’t find the East-Centric Music Festival listed in the official Americana Fest guide, but it’s definitely a musically kindred spirit — only it’s also the inaugural shindig at a new spot on the East Side, just a couple blocks from Five Points. The good news is people are no longer being punished by the highway maintenance gods for wanting to cross the Cumberland on weekends, so it’ll be easy as pie to get to. The headliner is Anne McCue, an Aussie who’s certainly no stranger to Americana aficionados, or to East Nashville. She’s taken to calling her thing “cosmic biker rock.” Translation: She gives her tough riffs (she’s a first-rate rock guitarist) and insouciant melodies plenty of room to breathe in arrangements that are anything but domesticated.
