Those familiar with Tennessee law enforcement history should know the name Buford Pusser. His reign as sheriff of McNairy County between 1964 and 1970 earned him enduring fame. Indeed, he waged what some characterize as a one-man-war on endemic corruption at the Mississippi-Tennessee state line. The actions of this larger-than-life former professional wrestler--he was known as "Buford the Bull"--inspired the 1973 film Walking Tall, several television spin-offs and a name-only 2004 remake of the film starring, fittingly enough, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Now, with the publication of Walking On, Dwana Pusser--Buford's daughter--tells her side of the many stories. Of interest are Ms. Pusser's comments on her mother's killing in an ambush and on the controversial car crash that took her father's life. The generous number of photographs make for incredibly winsome studies in '70s chic.
