Duhk Tales

The Duhks’ worldbeat-based brand of neo-traditionalism reached a fever pitch with last year’s highly skilled Fast Paced World. Lead singer Sarah Dugas’ haunting vocals interweave with Leonard Podolak’s cleanly plucked clawhammer banjo, yet the result is warmer and richer than that combination might sound. Even though it combines elements of urban pop, Big Easy jazz and progressive bluegrass, Fast Paced World’s wild, unbridled dynamism sounds unlike anything that has preceded it. It’s a standout record, even for them.
