In case you haven’t heard,
Go-Go Boots, the new album from Athens, Ga.’s Drive-By Truckers, is absolutely fucking great. While we might not have connected with everything they’ve ever done — which, mind you, is a hell of a lot —
Go-Go Boots connected with our wig-dome in ways we weren’t entirely expecting. Stripped-back and raw,
Go-Go Boots is a grim Southern noir masterpiece — a peek into the dark shadows and dark hearts that dot our region’s landscape. But since it’s the Truckers, there are also hefty helpings of humor, wry turns of phrase and even a little optimism — which, ya know, is kind of a relief on a an album filled with bad cops, lost loves and husbands bludgeoning their wives to death with the family fire poker. And while we’re at it, we should probably remind you that the new Truckers documentary,
The Secret to a Happy Ending, is a fascinating (though fanboy-ish) look at the band.
