Drive-By Truckers w/Bobby Keys and the Suffering Bastards

When: Sat., Feb. 11, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $20-$23
After nine studio albums and almost 15 years, the Drive-By Truckers can seem eternal, but the band has also been surprisingly malleable. The lineup remains a moving target — bass player Shonna Tucker left in December after eight years, following her ex-husband Jason Isbell and quite a few others into the post-DBT wilderness. If anything, the flexibility of the band’s composition only serves to reinforce the steely strength of the partnership at its center: Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley are the vibrant, bloody heart of this whole enterprise. Their relationship has lasted almost two decades, and last year’s moody, beguiling Go-Go Boots is evidence enough for its viability. Cooley’s good-girl-big-dreams-bad-end ballad “Pulaski” is a melancholy masterpiece, while Hood continues to display his gift for illuminating fragile psyches and impossible choices on standouts “Ray’s Automatic Weapon” and “I Used to be a Cop.”
