Re: “Lani Nash w/Ashley McBryde

These girls ROCK! So creative and "real"...great writers and incredible performers. I'm glad I caught this show! You can also see Lani Nash's website at www.laninash.com and even hear some acoustic songs on her myspace site www.myspace.com/laninash1. You will not be disappointed. Ashley is excellent too, especially if you like country music, she is a bit more country than Lani Nash, but a great combination of personality with these two!

Re: “The Power Triplets

Being a devoted fan of instrumental music I am happy to have discovered THE POWER TRIPLETS . These cats cover ALOT of ground stylistically...stank-ass funk to tastey polished melodic gems with plenty of foul mouthed grooves and greasey tones . Guitarist Chris Nix plays with a great deal of heart and totally avoids the cliched copy cat licks I've heard everybody play a million times over . Its rare to find a guitar player that hasn't stolen his style from somebody else's bag . If I had to compare him to some well known guys I'd say Nix has a dash of restrained Steve Morse and Eric Johnson's pissed off cousin . There is an element of grit that gives him a tough blues edge balanced with intelligence ......kind of a Hendrix / Robben Ford love child perhaps ?

The bass and drums are locked down . You couldn't ask for a tighter unit . Nothing short of BAD ASS . These cats play with authority , taste and restraint . They do happen to get outside the box in a few spots but it all makes sense ...especially after a few spins....I like this stuff more and more each time I listen . In fact this is the type of music that grows on you IMHO .

Its not your typical fusion or prog . Its in a class by itself . It has what I find lacking in some Prog/ Fusion...BALLS .

Austin resident, Toni Price, hit the stage last night in Nashville, at the Douglas Corner Cafe. The dimly lit venue, with it’s brick lined walls and green tinted lighting, was a quaint compliment to the singer’s sultry voice. The evening, which started as a low-key acoustic session, quickly morphed into a whiskey driven walk down memory lane for Price and her audience. Reminiscing about late night jam sessions, Price became not only the evenings entertainment, but an instantaneous friend, drawing her audience in like a moth to a flame. Known as “the queen of the back-porch blues,” Price belted out songs about the blues, life, love, and learning, with numbers like ”Cats and Dogs,” “Lucky,” “Like the Sun,” and “Moonlight Blues,” many of which were written by Gwil Owens, who provided last night’s acoustic guitar. Each song was followed by a shot of whiskey, making the bar tender a permanent part of the act. Price’s voice is definitely what draws people to her. A self confessed talentless songwriter, she laughed and slurred, “if I had to write my way out of a paper bag, I’d still be in it.” Owens, on the other hand, is better left to the writing and playing, as heard in his attempt to throw in background vocals on a couple of songs. Dressed in a nude-pink shimmering dress, that came inches above the knee, Price posed and smiled through many of the more upbeat songs, while drunkenly weeping through the sadder ones. Her performance, though whiskey fueled, was nonetheless a delight for all in attendance. She joked that she was going to write a memoir entitled “Who the Hell Remembers?,” which seems ever so appropriate, and explained what “irons” are. According to Price, “irons are tiny pieces of irony.” which was followed by a wave of laughter, as were many of her interjections. Price appears as a cross between Emmy Lou Harris, Sheryl Crow, and Janis Joplin. The singer, now 48, resembles Emmy Lou, with her long flowing grayed hair, sounds eerily like Sheryl Crow, and drinks more whiskey than even Janis Joplin could have. With her red draped shawl, which she clung to in a manner that would make any burlesque fan proud, her tiny sequined dress, and unshaved “all natural legs,” Price surprisingly came off as a sexy, sultry blues singer, worthy of any good Vegas lounge. It’s no surprise that she has long been revered as one of Austin’s diamonds, rough as it may be. Price currently has seven albums available, all of which are available on Amazon. Swim Away (1993) Hey (1995) Sol Power (1999) Low Down and Up (1999) Midnight Pumpkin (2001) Born to Be Blue (2003) Talk Memphis (2007) For more info on Toni Price, visit: www.toniprice.com And check out NPRs feature on Toni at: http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/features/2002/feb/price/020218.price.html Author: Rosemary Haskins, co-owner of WaterWorks Entertainment ORIGINAL POST @ http://rosemaryrocks.wordpress.com/2009/04/19/toni-price-30-songs-and-30-shots/

Re: “Gram International: The Burritos feat. Walter Egan, Chris James and the Gram Band, Rebecca Jed and the Bucksnort Beauties, Derek Hoke, Donna Frost, Devious Angels & Sunday Valley

For the past four years, this has been one of the absolute-must-not-miss concerts in Nashville. I reviewed The Burritos' debut album on my "Underground Nashville" blog. Long story short: The album is fantastic. It truly sounds like a GREAT Flying Burrito Brothers/Gram Parsons album. I urge all Gram Parsons fans to come out tonight to this always-memorable event.

Re: “Gram International: The Burritos feat. Walter Egan, Chris James and the Gram Band, Rebecca Jed and the Bucksnort Beauties, Derek Hoke, Donna Frost, Devious Angels & Sunday Valley

Thanks for again making Gram InterNational a Critic's Pick (2009). I am the organizer of the Gram Parsons Petition Project and Gram InterNational. Derek Hoke has dropped out for personal reasons. However, Gram InterNational IV Nashville and Douglas Corner Cafe couldn’t be more thrilled to have Don Pedigo (aka Grand Persons) join us to open Friday at 6:30 sharp. I believe you will be amazed by his covers of Gram Parsons songs as well as his own acclaimed songwriting.

Samples:Hot Burrito #1:http://donpedigo.com/featured/live-cover-h…
One Hundred Years from Now:http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_10746883.

On second is Nashville’s most exciting new duo, Devious Angels (some may remember Jon from his rock star days with Pink Spider). Also included are Sunday Valley, just named Best New Outlaw Band of 2011 by Nashville Scene. More info at: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=2620… and see you at Douglas Corner Cafe at 6:30, Nov 4 —free swag to the first 20!

Cheers,Will James
