If there are two things in this world this Best Week Ever and Last Comic Standing vet digs above all else, they would be movies (check out his none-too-subtly titled Doug Loves Movies podcast) and setting fire to and inhaling the smoke subsequently emitted from dried cannabis leaves (as one of his bits decrees, “The 37 states that have not legalized medical marijuana are dead to me.”) Not surprisingly, sometimes Benson’s dual passions even manage to cross paths, such as during the filming of his 2007 mockumentary/tour film Super High Me. Naturally, his material revolves around the two, with plenty of his own quirky, hyper-self-aware takes on dating, food and the intricacies of stand-up comedy itself thrown in for good measure.
