The other day we were chatting with the rest of the secret cabal that runs hip-hop in this town — though it’s not really a secret or a cabal, more like a bunch of folks who run alongside hip-hop and say encouraging things in public forums — discussing the simple fact that in less than a year, Nashville went from being a city that got skipped by hot tours to a city that gets more hot shit than we can handle. For real, there have been about 10 great touring acts this month alone. Dom Kennedy for instance — who just signed a deal with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath records — is one of the hottest MCs on either coast, and he’s making a stop in our little burg. This would never have happened 18 months ago. Smooth and soulful, Kennedy makes undeniably sophisticated hip-hop that’s got all the swag the kiddos are looking for, and all the substance old-school heads crave. Kennedy is joined by DJ Crisis, Open Mic, Dee Goodz and Kyle J.
