Who was the first cutting-edge-yet-mainstream-approved comic Jay Leno personally handpicked to serve as news-based comedy correspondent for his recently early-fied and debuted Jay Leno Show? Well, that’d be Rachael Harris. But the second? Oh, uh, Jim Norton. However, proudly rounding out the top five (including Dan Finnerty and Mikey Day) is the former titular star of juggernaut ABC/UPN sitcom The Hughleys, The first host of BET’s ComicView and one-quarter of Spike Lee’s The Original Kings of Comedy even comes with a current-events pedigree from stints on CNN, as well as countless pop-ins on Real Time with Bill Maher and Larry King Live. Before he gets all Brian Williams (one of 12 others recently named in a second wave of correspondents), up in America’s living rooms, Hughley makes a rare, back-to-roots club appearance. Just don’t ask him to do any Jaywalking.
