Denny Diamond at Mercy Lounge

Turn on Your Heartlight

Turn on Your Heartlight
Some people are blessed with legs like pistons, others with disgustingly good looks. Denny Svehla, for his gift, has a baritone that bears an uncanny resemblance to Neil Diamond’s. In the decade since making his initial appearance on Dick Clark’s Your Big Break—adopting the moniker Denny Diamond—he has gone from playing Slow Bar as a solitary man (with a laptop) to leading a full-fledged revue—complete with family band The Longfellows—that’s as close to real-deal Neil as you’re gonna get. Spend just one hot August night watching Denny pay homage to the Jewish Elvis, and you’ll come away a believer. And whether you’re a two-bit manchild or a Kentucky woman, you’ll have a blast singing along to “Sweet Caroline,” “Honey Drippin’ Times” and “Red, Red Wine.”
