DemROCKracy: Mary Mancini for State Senate Fundraiser feat. Phiz, Forget Cassettes & Tower Defense

When: Thu., May 15, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $10
To put it diplomatically, The Tennessee Democratic Party has had a rough few terms recently, but it’s quite possible that Mary Mancini is exactly what they need to begin addressing the balance of power in our blushing red state. Besides having a clearly defined progressive platform, Mancini — long an active presence representing causes before the state legislature, as well as proprietor of much-missed all-ages venue Lucy’s Record Shop — has support from many segments of the population that aren’t traditionally very engaged in local politics. Tonight, several top-notch local musicians rally to help her fill the war chest, including Beth Cameron’s thunderous electro-rock outfit Forget Cassettes, and Mike and Sarah Shepherd’s double-bass-wielding post-punk trio Tower Defense. Local chanteuses extraordinaires Cortney Tidwell and Tristen have appeared together several times — live, Tidwell sometimes provides backing vocals on Tristen's serpentine tune “Anti-Baby” — but tonight marks their full-set debut under the moniker Phiz.
