Delbert McClinton w/The McCrary Sisters & Dick50

When: Tue., Nov. 8, 8 p.m. 2011
Delbert McClinton seems like the type of performer who’d want to help out a guy who worked hard for him on the road. That’s exactly what this show is meant to do; it’s a benefit for his longtime tour manager Keith DeArmond, who’s dealing with serious health issues. McClinton’s certainly sung about getting into the pleasurable, roadhouse kind of trouble, like in “Honky Tonkin (I Guess I Done Me Some).” But even when the subject matter is something else, you can feel all the nights he sweated it out in Texas juke joints in the leathery soulfulness of his vocal delivery and his to-the-bone feel for humid, R&B-and-country-melding grooves. McClinton is reportedly at work on a new album with his early ’70s duo partner Glen Clark, and he’ll be joined this night by the unparalleled McCrary Sisters — on whose new down-home gospel album, Our Journey, he appears — and rootsy rock ’n’ rollers Dick50, who have plenty of experience backing McClinton.
